Media That Matters!
If a tree falls in a forest and nobody's there to hear it, does it make a sound? If a video is created but nobody's watching, does it have an impact?
I'm Gary C. Daniels, an award-winning, Emmy-nominated freelance producer, videographer, and editor who specializes in creating media messages that have impact. Whether you need a promotional video, tv show, documentary, fundraising video, broadband content, tv commercial, public service announcement, informational video, interactive DVD or CD-ROM, I can help you get and maintain your audience's attention so that your message will be successfully delivered.
Today people are bombarded with media messages. Information overload. So how do you break through all the noise to deliver your own message? Sometimes this requires subtlety. Other times, spectacle. Either way, you must first interrupt your viewer to grab their attention and only then can you deliver your message successfully.
Too often clients try to force-feed their message to their intended audience. In our remote-controlled, 500-channel universe this is simply not possible. If you do not first seduce the viewer into watching your message they will change the channel. And having a captive audience changes nothing. If your message is boring they will tune you out mentally and once again your message will not be delivered.
The word "entertain" simply means "to hold the attention of." If your message cannot hold the attention of your viewer, if it is not entertaining, your message will not have an impact. But what's entertaining to one audience is boring to another. Thus the most important part of creating a media message is to Know Thy Audience!
That's why there's never a one-size-fits-all solution to every problem.
I will help you understand your audience and also what is possible with today's digital video production methods. I can handle your project from conception to completion. I specialize in documentary-style, reality-based productions that both entertain and inform. But first and foremost they must entertain or they will never successfully inform!
I have worked on tv shows for networks including MTV, The Learning Channel, and Food Network. I have worked on commercials ranging from Crest Toothpaste to Office Depot. I have shot interviews with personalities ranging from Walter Cronkite to Sidney Poitier. I have shot on-location in cities all over the U.S. from Los Angeles to New York and international locations in Asia and Europe from Bangkok, Thailand to Venice, Italy.
I have created projects for a variety of organizations including YellowPages.com, Turner Entertainment, Office Depot, Duval County Public Schools, BellSouth Mobility, Clyde Beatty Cole Bros. Circus, Savannah College of Art and Design, Savannah Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Exchange Club Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, among others. I created a fundraising video for the United Way of Northeast Florida that helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars beyond their targeted goal.
I've produced documentaries that have been shown in film festivals all over the world from Los Angeles to Tokyo to Germany and I have won numerous awards for my work.
I have also created promotional videos for independent artists and non-profit organizations as well as news segments for broadcast on local television news stations. I recently produced three award-winning and highly-rated television series for the Duval County Public Schools and currently serve as the Communications Specialist for the Teaching American History grant, a multimillion dollar federal grant, where I produce educational videos about local Florida history.
I specialize in documentary-style profiles of interesting people, ranging from artists and performers to athletes and sports stars. I also specialize in historical documentaries. I recently finished an award-winning documentary, CD-ROM, DVD and website about the prehistoric Native Americans who inhabited the Southeastern United States.
I have a Master's degree in Film/Video/Digital Motion Imaging from Georgia State University in Atlanta and a BFA in Video from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Thus I have the education, background and experience to help solve your communications needs.
Please browse my site and view my work in Flash, RealVideo and Quicktime formats. If you like what you see and would like me to produce a project for you or your organization, please contact me.
